Keeping Your Home Safe During your Summer Holiday

Date: 20/06/17

It’s summer time and although we do have the odd period of hot weather in the UK there is more chance of finding the sun holiday you want on a short trip abroad. If you are planning on a summer holiday away from home there are a few things you can do to ensure that your home security remains tip-top whilst the property is vacant.

Ask A Friend to House Sit

One thing that you could do is to ask close friends and family to either house sit whilst you are away, or to regularly check for post, water the plants and to make the house appear as active as possible when you are away.

Active Appearance

If you leave blinds open at the front of the house when you are living there, stick to that routine when you are away. It is a good trick to alternate between rooms in the front and the back in case any potential burglars are looking to see if anyone is home. Our Fake TV switches on as it goes dark and is perfect for giving the appearance of a working television set behind the blinds and curtains.

Upgrade Your Alarm System

Lastly, just before a summer holiday where you’ll be away from home for a week or two, take time to conduct a thorough review of your home security systems, including the strength of all doors and windows, locks and your current alarm system.

The last thing you want when going away on holiday is to worry about your home. Put in place a strict check of your home before leaving for the sun, and upgrade alarm systems and other home security processes if necessary. ERA has a range of products and advice that can help you.
