Are you moving home?
Moving house is incredibly exciting. After weeks of planning and sorting it’s great to get your new keys and sit back and enjoy your new space.
But at ERA we recommend that before you even move your first box in – you change the locks – easier said than done? It’s an incredibly simple and the cost is negligible. You’d be surprised just how many keys to your property might still be in circulation – from previous cleaners, gardeners, mother-in-laws and even neighbours.
Our ERA Approved Partners are members of the Master Locksmith Association (MLA) and are available nationally to survey your home for free so you can be confident that you have the best security possible and the keys are yours. Click here for further information or to request a survey.
The ERA Installers all have years of experience of changing locks or adding security devices into your home so are ideal to take the hassle out of a security update, but if your handy with a toolbox we have a number of 'How to guides' that can help.
With PVCU doors the locks can be changed by just replacing the Euro Cylinder – watch our – how to change your Euro Cylinder video, it takes a few minutes with the right tools.
If your door has a more traditional mortice lock and Nightlatch these can also be easily changed – please see ‘How to replace a Mortice Lock’ and ‘How to replace a Nightlatch Cylinder’
Most insurance companies require a mortice lock of BS3621:2004 standard or higher or equivalent Multi-point lock. Where the door is not thick enough to take a mortice lock insurers require a high security Nightlatch such as ERA’s BS Nightlatch.
No matter how good the locks on your door are it always good to take extra security measures ERA offer a number of options, door security bolts applied top and bottom can help dissipate any direct force applied to the door, also many thieves attack a door not on the lock side but on the hinge side here hinge bolts again fitted at the top and the bottom make removing the door from the hinge side much more difficult.
Easy to install high quality door and window locks can act as a real deterrent to burglars; people don't have to turn their homes into a fortress. If you need any further advice on fitting or application or ERA locks please contact us using the ‘Ask the Expert’ feature on this website – you can even send us pictures of your locks if you’re not sure if they comply with current standards.

Review your property - Through the eyes of a would-be burglar. Look for obvious places where a burglar might make an attempt at a break-in.
You need to enjoy your new home - not live in a fortress. But some obvious visual deterrents, such as additional window and door locks, will make a burglar think twice.
Just a note to express my thanks for the unbelievably pro-active customer service. I was a quality manager for a large UK company and if I had been able to instill and ethos such as you have demonstrated I would have been very happy. This experience will result in my using Era products more.
It's nice to see a quality service from a UK company. Rest assured I will only use ERA locks on my house and business premises from now on.
